Flexing the Flex-Review Of The New Scott 690/4 Flex Rod

The Scott Fly Rod Company has recently introduced their new FLEX line up of fly rods, these rods come in a good range of weights and sizes from a 7’6” 3wt right through to a 10’0” 8wt covering pretty much all the bases.

It’s a mid-price point fly rod that delivers all the bells and whistles for under the $1000 mark. The FLEX incorporates many of the new innovative  design and technology aspects that are found in the award winning Scott Radian and Meridan rods. Each rod is hand made from start to finish in their shop in Montrose Colorado so no short cuts have been taken in the making of this quality new rod series.

I was lucky enough to receive the 906/4 FLEX from the guys at Manic Tackle a few weeks ago and have fished with it twice so far ,once on a small local stream casting weighted nymph rigs with bulky indicators, the other time stalking the edges of lake Wanaka casting buggers and streamers to cruising brownies. My first impressions of the rod were that it has a fast but not overly aggressive action, is super responsive and ultra-light in the hand. The powerful butt sections help with quick, positive hook sets and fish control the 906/4 is the perfect rod for our NZ conditions in my opinion, from fishing heavy double nymph rigs ,  bulky terrestrials patterns to  large streamers this rod will handle it all !
