Funday Sunday

Sundays in our house are for fun ! My wife ski’s with my daughter Charlotte and Louie and I have fishing adventures so it’s a win win for every one. We have spent the last few Sundays either stalking the edges of Lake Wanaka or Lake Hawea sight fishing to post spawning browns who are patrolling the shallow’s looking to fatten up after their winter spawning run or fishing the mouths of some of our in-flowing rivers and streams for rainbows who are about to head upstream to spawn !

Techniques have varied each weekend, from stripping large egg head woolly bully streamers on intermediate sink tip lines through the rip and drop off zone of an in flowing river mouth…..too fishing a well weighted nymph with an egg pattern dropper set at varying lengths under an indicator, all of which have produced goods !

Fish have generally been in pretty good condition, except for a couple of browns which have been quite slim and have had scarring from their busy winter activities !

We are so lucky here in the Southern Lakes region to have so many options for fishing over the winter months, There are many kilometers of the Clutha river open for Spey style fishing and plenty of still water sight fishing opportunities when conditions are right there really isn’t any excuse to put your gear away at all !
